Acclaimed painter Amy Sherald, renowned for her distinctive approach to depicting the African American narrative through compelling portraiture, has officially allied with Creative Artists Agency (CAA) for management. This significant development comes as Sherald continues to build upon a career marked by critical success and public recognition, particularly since her seminal commission to paint former First Lady Michelle Obama's portrait.

Sherald's breakthrough moment arrived in 2018 when she was personally selected by Michelle Obama for an official portrait to be housed in the National Portrait Gallery in Washington, D.C. This iconic artwork, portraying Obama in a posture of thoughtful repose, catapulted Sherald from the specialized realm of the art world into the mainstream, garnering widespread attention and acclaim for her unique artistic vision.

Beyond her celebrated portrait of Michelle Obama, Sherald's artistry has earned her a prominent place in major public collections across the globe. Her works are proudly displayed in institutions such as the Crystal Bridges Museum of American Art, the Los Angeles County Museum of Art, the Museum of Fine Arts Boston, the Nasher Museum of Art in Durham, North Carolina, the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art, the Whitney Museum of American Art, and the esteemed Tate Gallery in the United Kingdom, solidifying her status as a significant contemporary artist.

Her numerous accolades further underscore her influence and talent. Sherald made history as the first woman and first African American to be awarded the grand prize in the Outwin Boochever Portrait Competition by the National Portrait Gallery. Her contributions have also been recognized with the 2017 Anonymous Was A Woman Award and the 2018 Smithsonian Ingenuity Award. More recently, she received Harvard's highest honor in African and African American studies, the W. E. B. Du Bois Medal, last year.

A native of Columbus, Georgia, Amy Sherald's artistic journey is rooted in a strong academic foundation. She earned her Master of Fine Arts in painting from the Maryland Institute College of Art, building upon her Bachelor of Arts in painting from Clark-Atlanta University. This robust educational background, combined with her innate talent, has empowered her to create art that resonates deeply and meaningfully with audiences worldwide.

Amy Sherald's decision to join CAA marks a pivotal moment in her career, indicating a strategic step towards broader engagement and opportunities within and beyond the traditional art sphere.
