Instructions

The Yellow Affair has acquired the distribution rights for "Shame and Money," the newest cinematic work by writer-director Visar Morina. This film is scheduled to premiere globally within the World Cinema Dramatic Competition at the Sundance Film Festival, marking Morina's second feature to be showcased at the festival, following his 2020 film "Exile." A debut clip from the film is now available, providing an initial look at this multinational co-production involving Germany, Kosovo, Slovenia, Albania, North Macedonia, and Belgium.

The narrative of "Shame and Money" centers on a couple in their forties residing in rural Kosovo. Their life takes an unforeseen turn after a family dispute leads to the loss of their livelihood, compelling them to relocate to Pristina. There, they face immense pressure to secure employment and housing, thrusting them into the unforgiving realities of a hyper-capitalist society. Morina reflects on the film's core theme, drawing a parallel between financial hardship and emotional well-being, emphasizing the contemporary struggle of constantly validating one's worth in society.

Steven Bestwick, CEO of The Yellow Affair, highlighted the film's lasting impact and the compelling performances of its lead actors, Astrit Kabashi and Flonja Kodheli, portraying Shaban and Hatixhe, respectively. Morina, a Kosovo native, has received numerous accolades for his work, including awards at Berlinale, Sundance, Locarno, and Karlovy Vary, and was recognized by Variety as one of "10 Europeans to Watch." "Shame and Money" was co-written by Morina and acclaimed Kosovar playwright Doruntina Basha and produced by Vicky Bane and Schuldenberg Films, known for supporting distinctive directorial voices.

This film stands as a testament to the resilient human spirit in the face of adversity, portraying the arduous journey of finding one's footing in a challenging economic landscape. It reminds us that even amid despair, hope and determination can illuminate the path forward, encouraging empathy and understanding for those navigating similar struggles in our interconnected world.
